“Behind the scenes : Whats it like to be a Live Event Illustrator.”
A year ago I decided to take the plunge and go all in on my live illustrating career. I started my accessory business years ago, but something was missing - I wanted to draw more and make a living off it. The road has not been easy like any business there are challenges as well as rewards. My biggest challenge to date is spreading the word about my live event illustration service to people in the midwest, especially in Wichita Kansas.
Typical event starts roughly the same - my excitement starts to kick in hours before, and I start planning my outfit for the special occasion. If it’s a themed event I will ALWAYS dress in theme. I leave early and get to the event early. My punctuality 100% stems from social anxiety and the fear of getting lost to a new venue. I have social anxiety which starts to kick in when I arrive to the venue, doing these events has helped me with my people skills tremendously. After I set up - I wait for my first victim - I mean guest.
I do not take breaks while I am drawing I will typically have an assistant with me usually Lexi who helps take photos while I do my thang. One drawing will take about 5-8 minutes depends if it one or two people in the drawing. When I say time flies - it FLIES by. Some events go by so fast I forget to take photos for social media. Thats what happened when I was in Kansas City for the Fabletics influencer event. That event was one of my favorites, I got to use bigger custom paper and the outfits I got to draw were on point.
I will pack up my Copic markers and go on my merry little way - to my next event.
